The 1100 mm Mowerhead has been specifically designed to meet the needs of professionals and hobbyists who own compact excavators. This market segment is often overlooked by many manufacturers because it is considered to have limited use; METALMECCANICA AFB, on the other hand, pays close attention to these needs, creating an accessory that makes it virtually unique in the industry.

The 1100 mm Mowerhead can be mounted on mini excavators ranging from 6 to 11 tons, equipped with an auxiliary hydraulic system (hammer system). The accessory has a working cutting width of 108 cm and weighs approximately 350 kg.

The feature that makes it one-of-a-kind is the ability to fit three types of helical rotors:

1. Mixed-type helical rotor with hammers and triple blades: 8 hammers, 16 J-shaped blades, and 8 straight blades.

2. Helical rotor with forestry hammers: 16 hammers total, each with a 115 mm cutting edge.

3. Helical rotor with triple blades: 3 blades per mount (2 curved J-shaped and 1 straight), for a total of 48 blades.

The helical rotor ensures excellent performance, as maximum results are achieved with minimal effort.

The hammers and triple-blade mounts are made of wear-resistant Hardox material, and the mounting bolts are 16 mm in 10.9-grade steel. At the heart of the machine is the helical rotor, mounted on high-quality bearings. The shrink-fitted, case-hardened bushing houses the hydraulic gear motor, mounted directly on the cutting shaft.

The hydraulic motor, which is bidirectional and made entirely of cast iron with external drainage, makes the machine much more aggressive. The motor’s displacement varies depending on the excavator’s oil flow rate. Another advantage of the cast iron motor is that it maintains consistent performance, since the heating of the hydraulic oil does not cause thermal expansion, unlike traditional aluminum motors. This allows for sustained high cutting force performance.

The structural design of the cutting head was engineered with numerous strength factors in mind: the body is constructed from steel plates arranged on the sides and reinforced with cross-cut plates.

This model of excavator mulching head is designed to offer maximum operational versatility. It is equipped with openable and adjustable front and rear doors, has no support roller, and allows for operation in both directions (from right to left and vice versa), easily adapting to various operating conditions.

The exterior of the metal frame is equipped with several threaded holes that allow for the mounting of the standard saddle using pins, or the installation of various quick-attach couplers for the operating machine, depending on requirements and preferences.

Rotor Type Maximum Cutting Diameter Key Features

Mixed Rotor 15/20 cm Combination of hammers and blades; good balance between power, precision, and cleanliness

Hammer Rotor 15/20 cm Greater power, suitable for thicker wood; coarser cut

Blade rotor 10/15 cm Finer and more precise cut; suitable for thinner materials

1100 mm Mulching Head – METALMECCANICA AFB

The 1100 mm mulching head was designed to meet the needs of professionals and hobbyists who own compact excavators, a market segment often overlooked by many manufacturers. METALMECCANICA AFB, however, aims to offer innovative and reliable solutions, making this head almost unique in the industry.

Compatibility:

Mini excavators from 6 to 11 tons

Required equipment: auxiliary hydraulic system (hammer type)

Main features:

Effective cutting surface: 108 cm

Weight: approx. 350 kg

Option to mount three types of helical rotors:

Mixed hammers and triple blades: 8 hammers, 16 J-blades, and 8 straight blades

Forestry hammers: 16 hammers total, each with a 115 mm cutting edge

Triple-blade: 3 blades per mount (2 curved J-blades + 1 straight), total 48 blades

The helical rotor ensures superior performance: it allows for optimal results with less effort.

Materials and construction:

Blade and hammer mounts made of wear-resistant Hardox

16 mm fastening bolts in 10.9 steel

Rotor mounted on high-quality bearings, with a shrink-fitted and case-hardened bushing

Bidirectional cast iron hydraulic gear motor, mounted directly on the cutting shaft, with external drainage and variable displacement based on the excavator’s hydraulic flow rate

The cast iron motor maintains consistently high performance without suffering thermal expansion due to oil heating, ensuring power and aggressiveness during cutting. The motor’s displacement adapts to the excavator’s oil flow rate, optimizing the machine’s efficiency.

Structure and robustness:

The housing is constructed from steel plates arranged in a ribbed pattern with knife-edge reinforcements, designed to offer maximum strength and durability even under the most demanding operating conditions.

Operational versatility:

Openable and adjustable front and rear access doors

No support roller

Bidirectional operation, from right to left and vice versa

Easily adapts to various operating conditions and terrains

The 1100 mm METALMECCANICA AFB mulching head is the ideal choice for those seeking high performance, versatility, and durability, even for the most compact mini excavators.
